SATS prepares 150,000 Ready-to-Eat Meals for Singapore’s food resilience exercise

Singapore, 15 February 2025 – SATS Ltd. (SATS), Asia’s leading provider of food solutions and gateway services, is enhancing its efforts to strengthen Singapore’s food security with a range of specially curated ready-to-eat (RTE)1 meals that can be kept without refrigeration and served without reheating at ambient temperatures, leveraging advanced food processing expertise.

Between 15 and 28 February 2025, SATS will supply 150,000 RTE ambient meals as part of this year’s focus to strengthen food resilience as Singaporeans experience simulated power outages during Exercise SG Ready. It builds on the successful trial of RTE meals last year between SATS, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA), and the Ministry of Education via the Food Resilience Preparedness Programme.

This year, more than 100,000 students and teachers at over 90 schools and three Institute of Technical Education colleges, and some 8,000 seniors from 111 Active Ageing Centres will be able to try the RTE ambient meals. There will be five meal options, which were prepared at a SATS halal certified kitchen in Singapore with locally-produced ingredients and food alternatives. These are:

  • Chicken Bolognese Pasta
  • Curry Chicken with Briyani Rice
  • Fish Porridge with Sweet Potato and Pumpkin
  • Sweet Spicy Tomato Fish with Basmati Rice
  • Vegetable Marinara Pasta

The distribution of RTE ambient meals is intended to help participants cope with emergency situations when they are unable to prepare their meals normally.

Stanley Goh, Chief Executive Officer, Food Solutions, SATS Ltd., said: “SATS is one of Asia’s biggest providers of inflight catering services, and we are proud to lend our capability to support Singapore’s long-term food sustainability and national resilience goals. We have tapped into the food science and culinary expertise of our food technologists and chefs, combined with SATS’ operational capabilities, using high quality ingredients to prepare meals safely and at scale. These meals were developed through dedicated research and development. Focusing on food safety, we use advanced food preparation technology to extend their shelf life by eliminating pathogens and organisms that could cause food spoilage, enabling the meals to be stored in ambient conditions while preserving taste and quality.”

SATS remains committed to working closely with SFA as well as key stakeholders to develop innovative food solutions that contribute to a resilient and sustainable food ecosystem in Singapore.

1 Pre-cooked, shelf stable meals that can be consumed at room temperature and stored without refrigeration are also known as ambient meals. While such meals can be eaten straight from the pack, they are best enjoyed reheated to bring out the authentic taste and flavours.
